Maruti has surpassed 3 million cumulative rail dispatches, investing over ₹13,720 million to increase rail share to 26.5% as part of its sustainability and logistics expansion goals.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has reached a noticeable operational landmark by cumulatively dispatching over 3 million vehicles via the Indian Railways. This achievement, recorded in March 2026, highlights the automaker's decade long transition from road based logistics to more sustainable rail transport.

The journey to this milestone has seen rapid acceleration in recent years. While it took nearly eight years to reach the first million mark after starting rail operations in 2014, the jump from 2 million to 3 million was completed in just 21 months. This increased pace is attributed to the company's heavy investment in logistics infrastructure, which now exceeds ₹13,720 million.

The share of rail in the company's total dispatches has risen from a mere 5% in 2014 to 26.5% in the 2025-2026 financial year. Maruti Suzuki currently operates dedicated railway sidings at its manufacturing plants in Hansalpur, Gujarat, and Manesar, Haryana. These facilities have a combined annual capacity to handle 750,000 vehicles. The Hansalpur siding recently gained international acclaim as the world's first Modal Shift Transportation Project certified for carbon credits.

The company's rail network now spans 22 hubs and services over 600 cities across India. Popular models including the Swift, Baleno, and Brezza are transported through this system, which also connects to major export ports. In a notable expansion, the company recently extended its rail reach to the Kashmir valley through the Anantnag terminal.

Managing Director Hisashi Takeuchi stated that the company aims to increase the rail share to 35% by 2030. To support this goal, a new siding is planned for the upcoming facility in Kharkhoda. This shift aligns with the national PM GatiShakti initiative, focusing on reducing carbon footprints and easing congestion on Indian highways.
