Maruti Suzuki has not increased the sticker price of both cars.
Maruti Suzuki has upgraded the safety features of its popular entry-level models, the Alto K10 and S-Presso, by equipping them with an Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) as standard. The addition of this crucial safety feature aligns these hatchbacks with the more stringent safety requirements laid out by both Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP. What stands out is that this enhancement comes at no additional cost to buyers.
ESP is a safety system designed to prevent a vehicle from skidding, ensuring it maintains its intended direction of travel even during challenging driving conditions. The system works by integrating various technologies such as the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control System (TCS), and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). It uses multiple sensors to continuously monitor the car’s movement, including speed, steering angle, and wheel rotation. If the ESP detects a potential loss of control, it intervenes by applying brakes selectively on individual wheels and modulating engine power.
With this update, all Maruti models, except the Eeco, now come equipped with ESP as a standard feature, reinforcing the brand’s focus on offering safer vehicles across its portfolio. The inclusion of ESP is in addition to the already existing safety features in the Alto K10 and S-Presso, which include dual front airbags, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and rear parking sensors. The fact that Maruti has added this feature without a price hike is particularly noteworthy, as budget-conscious buyers in this segment often prioritise cost-effectiveness over advanced safety features.
Mechanically, the Alto K10 and S-Presso remain unchanged. Both models are powered by a 1.0-litre petrol engine that is also available with a CNG option. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT (automated manual transmission) for the petrol variant, while the CNG variant is limited to the manual transmission.
The Maruti Alto K10 is priced between ₹3.99 lakh and ₹5.96 lakh, whereas the S-Presso is available from ₹4.27 lakh to ₹6.12 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Both hatchbacks continue to compete with models like the Renault Kwid and, due to overlapping price points, even pose competition to each other.
