Maruti Suzuki has updated the Alto K10 with six airbags as standard across all variants, following similar updates for the Celerio and Brezza. This move aligns with the brand’s growing focus on enhancing safety in its entry-level models. But does this make the Alto K10 a more compelling option for budget-conscious buyers, or are there trade-offs to consider? With prices ranging from ₹4.09 lakh to ₹6.05 lakh (ex-showroom, India), the Alto K10 remains one of the most affordable hatchbacks in the market. It competes with the Renault Kwid while also being an alternative to the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso.
Variants | Alto K10 MT | Alto K10 AMT | Alto K10 CNG |
---|---|---|---|
STD | ₹4.23 lakh | NA | NA |
LXi | ₹4.99 lakh | NA | ₹5.89 lakh |
VXi | ₹5.30 lakh | ₹5.80 lakh | ₹6.20 lakh |
VXi+ | ₹5.59 lakh | ₹6.09 lakh | NA |
Previously equipped with dual front airbags, the Alto K10 now offers driver, passenger, side, and curtain airbags as standard. Other safety features remain unchanged, including ABS with EBD, an Electronic Stability Control (ESC), rear parking sensors, and a 3-point seatbelt for all seats. While this is a significant step in improving occupant protection, it raises questions about whether this update alone is enough to address concerns regarding the safety standards of budget hatchbacks in India.
Beyond the added airbags, the Alto K10 retains its existing feature list. Buyers still get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, semi-digital instrument cluster, 4-speaker sound system, front power windows, manual AC, keyless entry, and steering-mounted controls. While these features are in line with expectations in this segment, the absence of additional enhancements—such as improved cabin materials or new tech features—might leave some buyers wanting more.
The Alto K10 continues with its 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, but Maruti has tweaked it slightly to deliver 67 bhp and 91 Nm of torque—an increase of 1.4 bhp and 2 Nm. The engine is available with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT. For those prioritising fuel efficiency, the CNG variant remains unchanged at 56 bhp and 82 Nm with a 5-speed manual transmission. Claimed mileage figures stand at 24.39 kmpl (MT) and 24.90 kmpl (AMT) for petrol and 33.40 km per kg for the CNG model.
