The Ertiga has been on sale since 2012 and is now in its second generation.
Maruti Suzuki’s most popular MPV, the Ertiga, has now crossed the 10 lakh sales milestone. The Ertiga has been on sale in India since 2012 and is now in its second generation. The first-generation Ertiga received a facelift in 2015, while the second generation, which was launched in 2018, got a facelift in 2022.
Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki, said, “The modern appeal of the Ertiga has seen first-time customers for the MPV increase up to 41 per cent."
The Ertiga has recorded average sales of more than 71,000 units per year since it was launched in 2012. It achieved the 1 lakh sales milestone in 2013, with the 5 lakh sales milestone coming in 2019; 7 years since its launch. These sales figures are also boosted by the fact that Maruti Suzuki exports the Ertiga to more than 80 countries. The second-generation Ertiga is also rebadged as the Toyota Rumion which has been available in international markets since 2021 but came to India in September 2023.
In 2023, Maruti Suzuki sold nearly 1.30 lakh units of the Ertiga, being the second best-selling MPV in India, only behind the Maruti Suzuki Eeco. However, Ertiga’s sales saw a year-on-year decline compared to 2022, when it sold nearly 1.34 lakh units. The marque also claims that the Ertiga holds a market share of 37.5 per cent in the segment.
Maruti Suzuki says the top-spec variants of the Ertiga are a popular choice among buyers because of its features list. These include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car tech, cruise control and more. Safety features on the Ertiga include four airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, Hill-Hold Assist, and seat belt reminder for all seats, among others.
Under the hood, the Ertiga is currently offered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 102 bhp and 137 Nm and comes with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Maruti Suzuki also offers a factory-fitted CNG kit where the engine produces 87 bhp and 121.5 Nm in CNG mode and comes only with the 5-speed manual gearbox.
During its lifetime, Maruti Suzuki also offered a 1.5-litre diesel engine which produced 94 bhp and 225 Nm and came paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. It also had a 1.3-litre diesel engine producing 89 bhp and 200 Nm of torque and got a 5-speed manual gearbox. Now, it is only available with the 1.5-litre petrol engine aided by mild-hybrid technology which Maruti Suzuki calls SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki).
The Ertiga is priced between ₹8.69 lakh and 13.03 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It rivals the Maruti Suzuki XL6 (₹11.61 lakh - 14.61 lakh), Toyota Rumion (₹10.44 lakh - 13.73 lakh) and Kia Carens (₹10.45 lakh - 19.45 lakh).
