The company aims to scale this figure significantly in the coming years, targeting an overall solar capacity of 319MWp by FY 2030-31.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has expanded its solar energy footprint with the commissioning of a 20 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar plant at its new Kharkhoda manufacturing facility and an additional 10MWp installation at its Manesar plant, taking the company’s total installed solar capacity to 79MWp— up from 49MWp just a year ago.

This expansion aligns with Maruti’s long-term commitment to sustainability and the increased adoption of renewable energy sources within its manufacturing operations. The company aims to scale this figure significantly in the coming years, targeting an overall solar capacity of 319MWp by FY 2030-31, backed by a planned investment of over ₹925 crore. The company is also augmenting its reliance on green energy sourced from State Electricity Boards, further diversifying its energy mix.

As part of its clean energy roadmap, Maruti Suzuki expects renewable energy to contribute nearly 85% of its total electricity consumption by FY 2030-31. This would mark a substantial shift in the company’s energy profile, especially as it gears up to scale production to four million units annually in the coming years.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of MSIL, said, “Aligned with Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Environment Vision 2050 and the Government of India’s focus on renewable energy, we are systematically enhancing the use of renewable energy in our operations. This solar power expansion is a crucial step towards creating a cleaner, more sustainable energy ecosystem and contributes positively to the environment.”

The Kharkhoda facility, where the 20MWp solar plant has been commissioned, is a crucial new asset in Maruti’s expansion pipeline and is expected to play a pivotal role in its future production growth. The additional 10MWp added to the Manesar facility further strengthens the renewable energy backbone of MSIL’s existing infrastructure.
