The Grand Vitara, if it scores a five-star rating, will mark a milestone for Maruti Suzuki.
In a significant development, crash test images of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara have surfaced online ahead of the official release of its Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) results. The BNCAP is India's indigenous car assessment initiative, designed to evaluate the safety of vehicles sold within the country, taking over the role previously held by the Global NCAP.
The leaked images depict both frontal and side-impact tests conducted on the Grand Vitara, a compact SUV known for its robust build and advanced features. Despite the absence of an official announcement from Maruti Suzuki regarding the crash test results are expected to be released soon. The Grand Vitara, if it scores a five-star rating, will mark a milestone for Maruti Suzuki, potentially becoming the first model from the manufacturer to achieve such a high safety rating under the BNCAP.

The Grand Vitara's predecessor, the Vitara Brezza, achieved a commendable four-star rating in the Global NCAP crash tests conducted in 2018. Given that the Grand Vitara is built on the same platform, expectations are high for its performance in the BNCAP evaluation. The transition from Global NCAP to BNCAP represents a shift towards more localized safety standards, tailored to address the specific conditions and requirements of Indian roads and driving habits.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is offered with two petrol engine options- a 102 bhp, 1.5-litre engine with a mild-hybrid system and a 114 bhp, 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrain. The SUV boasts an array of features, including a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger, and ventilated front seats. Safety features include six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and a 360-degree camera.
Priced between ₹10.99 lakh and ₹20.09 lakh (ex-showroo, India), the Grand Vitara competes with the MG Astor, Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Toyota HyRyder, VW Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq. The competitive pricing, coupled with potential top safety ratings, could significantly boost the Grand Vitara's appeal in the crowded compact SUV segment.

Maruti Suzuki's strategy to send at least three models for BNCAP testing reflects a proactive approach towards enhancing vehicle safety. A five-star rating for the Grand Vitara would not only elevate Maruti’s reputation but also influence consumer decisions, given the increasing emphasis on safety in the automotive purchasing process.
While the official results are yet to be announced, the anticipation and speculation surrounding the Grand Vitara's BNCAP rating highlight the growing importance of crash test ratings in the Indian automotive market. The outcome will not only impact the Grand Vitara's sales but also set a benchmark for future Maruti Suzuki models.
