This is the fastest any compact SUV has reached the 3 lakh sales milestone in India.
Maruti Suzuki has sold more than 3 lakh units of the Grand Vitara in India in just 32 months. This is the fastest time any compact SUV has taken to reach this sales milestone in India. The Grand Vitara was launched in India in September 2022.
The Grand Vitara is available with a petrol engine as well as a strong hybrid powertrain. It was also available with a CNG version, but Maruti Suzuki silently discontinued it in April. While there was no official statement given on it, we suspect it is due to decreasing demand. The Grand Vitara is also one of the few compact SUVs to offer all-wheel drive capabilities.
For perspective, Hyundai has sold more than 10 lakh Cretas in India, but it has been on sale for seven years more than the Grand Vitara. Even Kia has sold more than five lakh Seltos, but that again, has been on sale for three years more. Even the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has been on sale for nearly the same period, but it has just done half of what the Grand Vitara has managed to sell.
Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “The Grand Vitara has been a catalyst in strengthening Maruti Suzuki’s position in the mid-SUV (compact SUV) market, and achieving this monumental milestone in such a short period of time is a new benchmark for the industry.”
Recently, Maruti Suzuki launched the 2025 Grand Vitara, which comes with a few significant updates. It gets a new affordable, strong-hybrid variant, Delta +, as well as the 6-speed automatic gearbox replaces the 5-speed manual for the AWD variants. Furthermore, it also now comes with six airbags as standard across all trims.
