Maruti Suzuki has upgraded safety on its premium MPV, the XL6, by adding six airbags as standard equipment, marking the latest step in the company’s “Safety Shield” initiative. The change takes effect immediately, with prices rising by up to 0.8%, or roughly ₹7,000–₹10,000, depending on the variant. This includes a price hike on the XL6 CNG model as well.

Previously, the XL6 came standard with four airbags. The new safety package includes dual front, side, and curtain airbags. This upgrade follows similar moves on other Maruti models. In July, the Ertiga and Baleno also received six airbags, with modest price hikes of 1.4% and 0.5%, respectively. The company has committed to ensuring that all its passenger vehicles, from entry-level cars like Alto and Wagon-R to premium models, feature six airbags by the end of 2025.

The XL6’s price rise of up to 0.8% is in line with the increases seen on the Ertiga and Baleno. For most buyers, this translates to a minor ₹9,000–₹12,000 increase, less than the monthly payment on a typical car loan. In return, buyers gain essential safety gear that can prove life-saving in an accident.

Till July 2025, Maruti Suzuki has equipped its entire lineup with six airbags, with the S-Presso, Ignis, and Ciaz compact sedan being the exceptions. These models will not be receiving updates or facelifts anytime soon, which makes the addition of six airbags highly unlikely. That said, Maruti may still choose to make the upgrades before the regulations take effect, especially with the government mandate requiring all passenger vehicles to be equipped with six airbags by the set deadline.
