India's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, has announced a recall of 2,555 Alto K10 vehicles due to a potential defect in the steering gearbox assembly. The company stated that the defect might affect vehicle steerability and advised customers not to drive their cars until the part is replaced. However, the company has not yet disclosed the specific month(s) in which these units were manufactured.
Maruti Suzuki commented that the inspection and replacement of the defective part would be conducted free of charge and that the authorised dealer workshops would reach out to affected vehicle owners to arrange the necessary service.

The new model of the Alto K10 was launched on August 18, 2022. In FY24, Maruti Suzuki sold 49990 models in the mini car sub-segment, which also comprises the Alto and S-Presso models.
Previously, Maruti Suzuki had recalled 11851 units of the Baleno and 4190 units of the Wagon R, manufactured between July 30, 2019, and November 1, 2019, due to a possible defect in the fuel pump motor that could lead to engine stalling or starting issues.
