Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced a recall of 39,506 units of the Grand Vitara SUV due to a suspected defect in the fuel level indicator and warning light system. The affected vehicles were manufactured between 9 December 2024 and 29 April 2025. According to the company statement, the fuel level indicator and warning light in the speedometer assembly may not accurately reflect the fuel status in certain vehicles.
Maruti Suzuki has stated that owners of affected vehicles will receive communication from authorised dealer workshops. The company will conduct inspection and replacement of the defective component at no cost to customers.
The Grand Vitara is sold in India at prices ranging from Rs 10.77 lakh to Rs 19.72 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV is available with petrol, CNG and hybrid powertrain options, and offers an all-wheel drive variant.
This recall has been initiated as a precautionary measure, and the company has encouraged customers to respond promptly to communications from dealer workshops.
March 2024: Baleno and WagonR
Maruti Suzuki recalled 11,851 units of Baleno and 4,190 units of WagonR in March 2024. The recall addressed a possible defect in a part of the fuel pump motor, which could lead to engine stalling or starting issues in rare cases. The affected vehicles were manufactured between 30 July 2019 and 1 November 2019.\
August 2024: Alto K10
In August 2024, the company recalled 2,555 units of the Alto K10. The recall was issued due to a possible defect in the steering gearbox assembly, which could affect the vehicle's steerability in rare cases. Maruti Suzuki advised customers not to drive or use the vehicle until the part was replaced. The company's authorised dealerships contacted owners of affected units for inspection, with replacement carried out free of charge.
