The Jimny is the third model to be produced in India and exported to Suzuki’s home country, Japan.
Maruti Suzuki has started exporting the 5-door Jimny to Japan, in addition to around 100 countries it is already exporting the off-road SUV to. The 5-door Jimny is only built in India and all markets are catered to from here. The Jimny is the third model from the brand to be exported to Suzuki’s home-market, Japan, from India, after the Fronx and Baleno.
In Japan, the 5-door Jimny is called the Jimny Nomade, while the 3-door version is called the Jimny Sierra. The 5-door version is priced at JPY 2.65 million (roughly ₹14.89 lakh). The Japanese version of the Jimny gets different colours as well – Sizzling Red with Black Roof, Chiffon Ivory Metallic with Black Roof, Celestial Blue Pearl, Bluish Black, Jungle Green and Arctic White Pearl. Out of these, the Chiffon Ivory, Jungle Green and Celestial Blue Pearl are different than what’s offered on the India-spec model.
Unlike the India-spec model, the Japan-spec Jimny Nomade is only available in a single variant – FC. It is available with the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine as the India-spec model, producing 101 bhp and 130 Nm. However, it makes 2 bhp and 4.2 Nm less than Jimny in India. It also gets the same 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission.
Inside, it gets the same 9-inch infotainment touchcreen as the Indian Jimny. It also has the same rotary dials for the HVAC, windows, hill descent control and traction control. Two features that are available on the Jimny Nomade but not on the India-spec car are the heated ORVMs and extensions for the mirrors.
