Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., has confirmed that sales of its first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e Vitara, will commence before the end of September 2025. The announcement was made by Maruti Suzuki Chairman R.C. Bhargava during the company’s Q4 FY25 financial results briefing. The e Vitara will be manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat facility and marks a significant step for the automaker as it enters the full-electric vehicle space.
The SUV will not only be sold in India but also exported to more than 100 international markets, including Japan and several countries in Europe. According to Bhargava, Maruti Suzuki aims to produce approximately 70,000 units of the e Vitara in FY26, with a substantial portion earmarked for exports.
The e Vitara made its debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, showcasing Maruti Suzuki’s new Heartect-e platform, which underpins the electric SUV. The platform has been specifically designed to accommodate electric powertrains while maintaining a lightweight architecture. The SUV will be offered with two battery pack options—49 kWh and 61 kWh. On a full charge, the vehicle is expected to deliver a claimed range of over 500 km, placing it competitively within the segment.
On the exterior, the e-Vitara is equipped with LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs, LED tail lamps and 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the electric SUV features a 10.1-inch integrated touchscreen, a 10.25-inch multi-information display (MID), a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, an electric sunroof, and a Harman audio system.
In terms of connectivity, the e-Vitara includes Suzuki Connect, offering over 60 connected car features such as remote operations, vehicle diagnostics, and live tracking. The e-Vitara also emphasizes safety, offering seven airbags and an electronic parking brake as standard. Importantly, the SUV includes Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
