Maruti Suzuki is seeing strong demand for its just-launched Victoris compact SUV, with over 25,000 bookings received in the roughly one-month period since its unveiling. The first units have been delivered to customers, in line with the company’s target, aligned with the beginning of the festive season in India. Priced starting at ₹10.49 lakhs (ex-showroom), the Victoris is available in 21 variants, across petrol, strong hybrid, and S-CNG powertrains, and including AWD options.
The news comes against the backdrop of Maruti Suzuki’s best Navratri sales in 10 years, with over 2 lakh deliveries including Victoris SUVs projected for the nine days of Navratri. The company said last week that an additional 2.5 lakh bookings were still pending. The surge can be attributed to the recent GST rate reduction that led to cars across multiple segments becoming significantly more affordable, along with festive season demand. Buyers have received the full benefits of the GST cuts.
As per Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki, the company has been able to keep up with production to meet this demand, but has faced logistical challenges in shipping cars to end consumers from its manufacturing plants.
The new Victoris is highly competitive in its segment, with modern styling and design touches such as connected LED taillamps and aero-cut alloy wheels, and. Its interior is relatively plush, with dual-tone finishes, ambient multi-colour LED lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and ventilated front seats. There’s a 10.1-inch touchscreen for infotainment, as well as an eight-speaker sound system with Dolby Atmos audio, and integrated Amazon Alexa functionality.
The Victoris has also earned five-star ratings from both Bharat NCAP as well as Global NCAP, giving it serious credentials for adult and child occupant safety. Six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ABS with EBD, and pedestrian protection are standard safety features.
The surge in bookings has resulted in extended wait times, with several reports suggesting that buyers will have to wait for over two months for their Victoris to be delivered. This model is sold through Maruti Suzuki’s Arena dealership network. This launch is strategically important to Maruti Suzuki which remains India’s largest automaker by sales, even as the market moves away from smaller cars, its traditional stronghold.
