Mercedes-Benz is set to reintroduce the AMG GT nameplate to the Indian market after a hiatus of nearly three years. The performance-oriented luxury coupé will return in the form of the AMG GT 63 and AMG GT 63 Pro, both of which are expected to arrive via the completely built-up (CBU) route and in limited numbers.

The 2025 iteration of the AMG GT 63 brings with it several significant updates over its predecessor. Most notably, the new generation adopts a 2+2 seating layout, offering rear seats for the first time in the GT Coupé range. This marks a key departure from the earlier two-seater configuration, bringing it closer in usability to the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe while maintaining its sporting intentions. The car has also grown in overall dimensions, becoming longer, wider, and taller, with enhancements aimed at comfort and practicality. Updates to the infotainment system, lighting package, and interior storage solutions add to its appeal as a more daily-useable grand tourer.

Under the hood, the AMG GT 63 is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, delivering 585 bhp and 800 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an AMG-tuned 9-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, ensuring optimum traction and power distribution. Mercedes claims a 0–100 kmph time of 3.3 seconds, with a top speed of 315 kmph, making it more powerful than the outgoing AMG GT-R, which was previously the most aggressive road-going version sold in India.

For buyers looking for an even sharper performance focus, Mercedes will also offer the AMG GT 63 Pro, a more potent and track-capable variant of the standard model. While it continues to use the same 4.0-litre V8 and drivetrain layout, output rises to 612 bhp and 850 Nm, shaving time off the 0–100 kmph sprint and increasing the top speed slightly to 317 kmph. The Pro variant features additional aero enhancements to aid cooling and high-speed stability, larger wheels, ceramic composite brakes, and unique paint finishes to visually distinguish it from the standard version.

The reintroduction of the AMG GT range is in line with Mercedes-Benz India's strategy of bringing niche performance and luxury products to select clientele. While exact launch dates and pricing are yet to be officially announced, both models are likely to command a significant premium, particularly the Pro variant, which will cater to a small group of high-performance car enthusiasts.
