The production version of the EQG concept has been confirmed to launch in India.
At the sidelines of the launch of the GLA-Class and the AMG GLE 53 Coupe, Mercedes-Benz also showcased the EQG concept. Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz also announced that the all-electric version of the G-Class will also be coming to India, however, there is no confirmation on when it will arrive.
The EQG concept showcased is a near-production version of the upcoming all-electric variant of the G-Class. The EQG will retain the G-Class’ iconic boxy design but will have certain design elements of Mercedes’ EV models. Expect the production model to have a closed-off grille and blue accents all around to solidify its electric intent.
Under the hood, so to speak, the EQG will have four electric motors that can be controlled individually and a 2-speed automatic gearbox. This setup is likely to be carried over to the production version. The batteries of the EQG concept have been integrated into the ladder frame chassis. The electric G-Class has a reinforced underbody to protect the battery pack.
The EQG concept has the ability to do a tank turn which will allow it to make a 180-degree turn on the spot. This turn has been dubbed the ‘G Turn’ by Mercedes Benz. This can be activated by a dedicated button on the dashboard and the direction of the turn can be decided by pulling either the left or right paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.
The interior of the EQG concept is nearly identical to the standard G-Class, however, the concept’s interior has been wrapped in white leather. Expect the production model to carry over a similar design with a design similar to the upcoming G-Class facelift.
