The facelifted Mercedes EQS goes official with 926 km range, 350 kW rapid charging, and luxury upgrades including heated seatbelts and a futuristic steer-by-wire system.

Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the mid-cycle facelift for its flagship electric sedan, the EQS. In addition to visual changes, the new car gets interesting technology updates as well.

Visually, the front fascia features a new grille design that pays homage to the traditional Mercedes-Benz aesthetic, incorporating a backlit star pattern and "Digital Light" headlamps that project high beams up to 600 metres.

The most noticeable update is the updated claimed range, which now reaches an impressive 926 km (WLTP) on the EQS450+ variant. This improvement allows drivers to travel from London to Inverness without needing to plug in, effectively reclaiming the title of the world’s longest-range electric car from competitors like Lucid.

While the physical dimensions of the battery pack remain unchanged, Mercedes has utilised advanced cell chemistry and revised shapes to increase usable capacity to 122 kWh. Efficiency is further bolstered by the vehicle’s remarkably aerodynamic silhouette, maintaining a drag coefficient of 0.20. Significant upgrades to the charging architecture mean the EQS now adopts 800V technology, allowing for rapid charging speeds of up to 350 kW. Consequently, a brief ten-minute stop can add nearly 319 km of range.

The powertrain lineup begins with the rear-wheel-drive 450+, producing 362 bhp, while the 500 and 580 4Matic variants offer dual-motor performance. Inside, the cabin continues to be dominated by the massive Hyperscreen interface, now featuring an optimised "Zero Layer" software for easier navigation.

New luxury amenities include heated seatbelts inherited from the S-Class and dual 13-inch screens for rear passengers. For the driver, a new optional steer-by-wire system replaces the traditional steering column with an aeroplane-style yoke.
