The Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric has witnessed a good response in India, accumulating over 1,000 bookings and effectively selling out until March 2027 even before customer deliveries commence. Locally assembled at the manufacturer's Chakan facility in Pune, the luxury electric SUV enters the Indian market in the 400 4Matic guise at an ex-showroom price of ₹78.5 lakh.
The GLC Electric benefits from an extended 84 mm longer wheelbase compared to its combustion engine counterpart. Its exterior visual identity is defined by an upright illuminated front grille housing 942 lighting elements, an illuminated three-pointed star logo, micro-LED headlights, star-shaped LED daytime running lights, and two-piece wraparound LED tail lamps. The vehicle rides on multi-spoke alloy wheels measuring up to 21 inches and features functional storage solutions including a 128-litre front trunk (frunk) alongside a 570-litre rear luggage bay.
Inside, the cabin centres around a 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen spanning across the dashboard, paired with open-pore wood trim and physical rotary steering wheel controls. Occupant amenities include powered front seats with heating and massage functions, an optional certified Vegan Package, a SKY CONTROL fixed panoramic glass roof with switchable opacity and 162 integrated ambient stars, a Burmester 4D sound system, a head-up display, an AI voice assistant, a TERRAIN mode with transparent-bonnet view, 9 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Level 2+ ADAS capability.
Underneath the bodywork, the GLC 400 4Matic is powered by a 94 kWh battery pack that provides a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 715 km. Operating on an 800V electrical architecture, the SUV supports 330 kW DC fast charging capable of replenishing the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in 22 minutes or adding 305 km of range in 10 minutes, complemented by standard 11 kW AC and optional 22 kW AC charging capabilities.
Power is delivered by dual permanent magnet synchronous motors on both axles that generate a combined 489 bhp (360 kW) and 800 Nm of torque routed through a 2-speed transmission. This setup allows the 2,535 kg SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, reach a top speed of 210 km/h, and offer a towing capacity of up to 2.4 tonnes.
