The company says this update makes compatible cars a better entertainment hub and a smarter workspace.

Mercedes-Benz has begun rolling out a free over-the-air update for its MBUX car operating system. Over 700,000 cars currently on the road around the world will be able to receive the update. Models that run on the third-generation software platform include the current Mercedes-Benz GLC, C-Class, CLE, and E-Class. Availability and exact features might vary between countries and territories, as well as individual car configuration and capabilities.

The company is touting more immersive entertainment for owners of compatible cars. In terms of audio, Dolby Atmos is now supported in the Amazon Music, Audible, and Tidal apps, while the IMAX Enhanced video format with DTS:X sound will be available in the Ridevu by Sony Pictures app. This brings spatial audio and video to the in-car infotainment system, so passengers can have a more cinematic experience while on the go.

In addition to video content, music and audiobooks, the update also adds new features for gaming. A new Gamepack includes a selection of popular retro-style mini-games that passengers can play at any time.

Mercedes-Benz owners in Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Spain, the USA and Japan who do not already use Amazon Music Unlimited can claim a three-month trial subscription, while those in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Spain, the UK, and the USA can also get two months of Audible Premium. Both offers can be claimed any time before the end of 2026, though they will auto-renew unless cancelled manually.

Productivity also gets a boost with calendar integration, allowing car owners to see their upcoming appointments through the MBUX interface. The new app works with the same data as the user’s MBUX Notes, and will soon also integrate with MBUX Meetings. Location data in a calendar appointment can be used to quickly set a route for navigation. Drivers can also initiate a Microsoft Teams call directly through the app.

The improved MBUX voice assistant allows for additional functions such as adjusting car settings. Users can also ask the car to read out an overview of their upcoming appointments
