Mercedes-Benz has introduced India's first AI-powered automated vehicle scanner in Mumbai to streamline service inspections, enhance assessment transparency, and eliminate reception paperwork.

Mercedes-Benz India has introduced its XENTRY Vehicle Scanner at the newly opened Landmark Cars facility in Jogeshwari West, Mumbai. Marking the arrival of the first AI-powered automated vehicle inspection system by an automaker in the country, the drive-through technology aims to replace traditional manual service checks with a standardised, digital process.

When a car arrives at the service centre, it passes through an inspection bay fitted with thirteen cameras and a LiDAR sensor. Within four to five seconds, the system captures approximately 150 high-resolution images of the vehicle from multiple angles. Artificial intelligence algorithms process these anonymised images to evaluate bodywork, windshield condition, tyre tread depth, and underbody components. Notably, the tech can also identify underbody damage and differentiate between fluid leaks, such as distinguishing oil from water.

The complete digital inspection report takes about eight minutes to upload to the service advisor's tablet. Rather than spending time conducting walk-around checks with paper clipboards, advisors can immediately discuss the digital report with vehicle owners. This approach eliminates ambiguity regarding pre-existing damage, reduces customer wait times, and provides a transparent, 360-degree record of the automobile's condition.

The scanner is housed within Mumbai's largest Mercedes-Benz 2S facility, operated in partnership with Landmark Cars Limited. Spanning 58,000 square feet, the site features thirty-three workshop bays, a dedicated spare-parts area, and ninety-five trained professionals, with a capacity to service up to 150 vehicles daily.

Previously deployed in global markets such as Germany, Switzerland, and South Korea, XENTRY by Mercedes aims to set a new standard for premium workshop inspections across India.
