The Maybach SL is the only two-seater model from Mercedes’ luxury car division and the brand’s most expensive model in India.
Mercedes-Benz India has launched the Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series at ₹4.20 crore (ex-showroom, India), making it the most expensive model to be sold by the brand in India. The SL 680 is the second convertible by Maybach but the first in India.
The Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series is offered in two exterior colours – White and Red – and both options get massive amounts of chrome everywhere. There are two alloy wheel options, both 21 inches where one is a 5-spoke monoblock style and the other is a multi-spoke style. Like the Maybach EQS, the Maybach SL also has multiple Maybach logos on the outside, but this time they are printed on the bonnet too. It also gets an illuminated grille and a fabric roof with Maybach logos, similar to the bonnet.
The SL 680 is strictly two-seater, while the regular SL is offered as a 2+2 seater in India. And apart from this, it’s like the standard SL inside but with the luxury quotient dialled up to 11. There is leather everywhere, even the place behind the seats which is intended for luggage is wrapped in leather. So it still gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch vertical infotainment system.
Powering the Maybach SL 680 is a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine churning out 577 bhp and 800 Nm, which is 107 bhp and 100 Nm more than the AMG SL 55 offered in India. Power is sent to all four wheel via an 9-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. While it may produce more power than the AMG SL, it is 0.2 seconds slower in the 0-100 kmph run and has a lower top speed, 295 kmph for the AMG and 260 kmph for the Maybach.
The Maybach SL is in a league of its own with no real direct competitors in India. However, it will compete with the likes of the Bentley Continental GT Convertible, Porsche 911 Turbo S Convertible and more.
