The Indian automotive market is set to welcome a distinctive addition with JSW MG Motor India's upcoming electric roadster, the Cyberster. Scheduled for its inaugural public reveal at the Bharat Mobility Expo in January 2025, this vehicle represents a strategic move by JSW MG Motor India into a more specialised market segment. The Cyberster will be sold under MG’s new MG Select premium dealerships.
Breaking away from conventional EVs available in India, the Cyberster is a proper roadster with quite a sporty appeal. For starters, those dramatic butterfly doors and an aerodynamically sculpted body leave no doubt in the mind the sophisticated tech and performance it will offer.
Speaking of which, the MG Cyberster will be available in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. Some of the headline figures with the RWD configuration include 507 km range on a single charge, a 144 kW DC fast charging support that takes 38 minutes to charge the battery from 0-80 per cent, and a 250 kW-strong electric motor that is good for a top speed of 195 kmph.
With the four-wheel drive configuration, the MG Cyberster will be available with a 375 kW-electric motor that will be good for a top speed of 200 kmph, and can do the 0-100 kmph dash in just 3.2 seconds. Range falls slightly and at 443 km it is almost 60 km less than the RWD configuration.
Exterior design elements include sophisticated lighting systems, strategically placed air management channels, and smooth, sleek wheel hubs for aero efficiency. The retractable roof adds another layer of versatility to the vehicle's character, suggesting a multi-dimensional approach to electric mobility. The interior is characterised by a wraparound 3-screen cockpit, which will support the usual plethora of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
The Bharat Mobility Expo (January 17-22, 2025) will provide automotive enthusiasts and industry observers their first comprehensive look at this intriguing electric roadster. This will potentially signal MG Motor's evolving strategy in India's competitive electric vehicle landscape.
