The refreshed MG Hector goes up against the Tata Harrier and Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, and Mahindra XUV700.
MG Motor India has launched the Hector facelift at a starting price of ₹11.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This is the second major design refresh for the mid-size SUV since it was first launched in July 2019. Besides visual updates, the new Hector also gets some feature additions. Let us look at everything that’s changed about the new Hector compared to the outgoing model.
The biggest update has to be the redesigned front fascia of the Hector, featuring a massive honeycomb mesh grille dripped in chrome. This overdose of chrome spills over to the front bumper, as well as to the headlamp cluster. The SUV’s profile remains the same, but it gets newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, the LED taillamp cluster and bumper have been reworked, adding to the Hector’s fresh appeal.

Besides these changes, MG has also introduced two new exterior colour options called Celadon Blue and Pearl White, which join the existing palette of Aurora Silver, Starry Black, and Glaze Red.
Inside the cabin, the updated Hector gets new dual-tone Urban Tan interiors. MG hasn’t introduced any major changes but has focused on introducing software-level improvements and features. For instance, the portrait-style infotainment display still measures 14 inches, but the company promises smoother performance. It also receives some crucial updates such as two-finger gestures for HVAC controls and three-finger gestures for changing music tracks and volume.

The prices of all variants of the updated MG Hector, including the 6/7-seater Hector Plus, have been reduced by ₹1-2 lakh compared to the previous model. Prices of the diesel variants are yet to be announced.

Mechanically, the Hector and Hector Plus remain unchanged offering the same engine and gearbox options as their outgoing counterparts. The MG Hector petrol range is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine that delivers 143 hp and 250 Nm of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a CVT. The diesel versions are also expected to retain the same Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre engine, producing 170 hp and 350 Nm. While the outgoing diesel variants are only available with a manual transmission, it is yet to be confirmed whether MG will add an automatic option going forward.
