MG Hector Tomahawk EV: All That You Should Know

MG Motor India has pulled the wraps off the Hector Tomahawk EV, its new electric SUV positioned under the tagline "Plug-in to the Future." Billed by the carmaker as a technology-first family SUV, the Tomahawk EV brings a long list of segment-first features, a claimed 517 km range and a starting price that undercuts most rivals thanks to a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership option.

Variants and pricing

The Hector Tomahawk EV is offered in three trims — Excite, Exclusive and Essence — with a choice of five- and seven-seat layouts. The Excite and Exclusive trims are available only as seven-seaters, while the range-topping Essence comes in both five- and seven-seat configurations.

Under the conventional outright-purchase route, ex-showroom prices (all India) are: Excite 7-seater at ₹19,49,800; Exclusive 7-seater at ₹21,99,800; Essence 5-seater at ₹22,99,800; and Essence 7-seater, the most expensive variant, at ₹23,49,800.

MG is also offering the car under its BaaS "unique ownership programme," which separates the battery cost from the vehicle price. Under this scheme, the Excite 7-seater starts at ₹13.99 lakh plus a battery rental of ₹4.9 per km, making it the most affordable way into the Tomahawk EV. The Exclusive 7-seater under BaaS is priced at ₹15.99 lakh, while the Essence trim is priced at ₹16.99 lakh (5-seater) and ₹17.49 lakh (7-seater), each with the same per-km battery rental.

Powertrain and range

Every Tomahawk EV variant is powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor producing 150 kW and 310 Nm of torque, paired with a 69.2 kWh battery pack. MG claims a 0-100 km/h time of 8.2 seconds and a range of 517 km on the standard MIDC test cycle. The battery, mounted at a ground clearance of 230 mm, has reportedly undergone over 2,000 bench tests and 490 vehicle validations. Charging options include a CCS2-type DC fast charger (30-80 per cent in about 35 minutes), a 7.4 kW AC fast charger (10-100 per cent in roughly 12.5 hours), and a portable 3.3 kW charging cable that works off a standard 15A socket.

Space and features

Measuring 4,745 mm in length with a 2,810 mm wheelbase, the SUV offers a boot space of 604 litres on the Excite and Exclusive, and 579 litres on the Essence in seven-seat form. The cabin highlights include a panoramic cockpit sunroof, ventilated front seats, an "India's first" Gen AI-powered karaoke feature on the largest-in-segment 39.6 cm infotainment display, a 10-speaker Infinity sound system, and 256-colour ambient lighting.

The standout technology, however, is the vehicle's bidirectional charging suite: Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), billed as an India-first, lets owners power household appliances from the car's battery; Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) powers external gadgets; and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) lets the Tomahawk EV charge another electric vehicle.

Safety and ownership

Six airbags come as standard across all three variants, alongside ESP, hill-hold control and an 11-function Level 2 ADAS suite covering adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assist. MG backs the car with its e-Shield package, offering a lifetime warranty on the high-voltage battery for the first private owner, three years of unlimited vehicle warranty, and three years of roadside assistance, with several extended plans available.

Colour choices span Khaki Green, Aurora Silver, Starry Black, Celadon Blue, Pearl White and Shadow Gold, with dual-tone options featuring a Starry Black roof.
