The four new initiatives include a new EV charging app, EV battery recycling efforts, and more.
JSW MG Motor India has announced four new initiatives in the country that target electric vehicle buyers. These are a new EV charging aggregator app, a new way to reuse old EV batteries, an encyclopedia of EV terminology, and a new in-car app experience for EVs.
The new EV charging app is called eHub, and MG Motor claims it will help simplify charging EVs for customers. MG said this app will integrate several leading EV charging networks and allow people to find the nearest available charger, check compatibility, and even pay for a charging session. These providers include Adani TotalEnergies, Bharat Petroleum, Chargezone, Glida, Hindustan Petroleum, Jio-BP, Shell, Statiq and Zeon, and more are expected to join soon. The app also provides information about chargers along a route you might be planning.
MG Motor India has also partnered with Lohum and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) for a new initiative called Project Revive. With this, the companies will work together to reuse and recycle batteries that are no longer fit for use in vehicles. Lohum and TERI will use these batteries to create inverters to power homes, schools and workplaces in urban and rural areas, especially where there might be massive power outages. For Project Revive, MG has also partnered with Batx Energies, which will reuse old batteries to make chargers for EVs. One such charger has already been installed at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.
In partnership with Jio, MG has created a new in-car software system called the MG-Jio Innovative Connectivity Platform (ICP). MG’s EVs will have an app store powered by Jio, which will let users download educational and entertainment apps as well as games. However, these can only be used while the vehicle is stationary. The ICP will also have a voice assistant with support for six Indian languages. The upcoming MG Windsor EV will be the first to offer these features. A car-to-home connectivity feature will allow users who have Jio set-top boxes monitor their vehicles and book service appointments using voice commands.
Finally, there is the EVPedia encyclopedia. MG claims this website will provide “relevant information on electric cars”. Along with articles about EV technology, charging, and environmental benefits, the website also has information about total cost of ownership and government policies, along with a repository of research papers and a glossary on EV terminology.
