MINI has issued a global recall for the previous generation of the Cooper SE electric hatchback. Approximately 1.5 lakh units of the electric hatchback have an issue regarding the battery that was produced outside of specifications.
The recall reportedly affects MINI Cooper SE hatchback models produced between March 2019 and January 2024. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the USA, faults may occur in the high-voltage battery which could arise from various reasons. This could result in short circuits, overheating of the battery or even fire in some cases. A software update will be rolled out for all affected models and the software will include a diagnostic function that will detect the malfunction.
Acko Drive has reached out to MINI India regarding a statement on the Cooper SE models affected by this issue in India. This story will be updated once we hear back. According to the NHTSA’s recall statement, 12,535 vehicles are affected in the USA and MINI confirmed to Auto Motor und Sport that around 39,000 vehicles have been affected.
