MINI is set to debut two new all-electric John Cooper Works (JCW) performance models at the Mondial de l’Automobile 2024, which kicks off on October 14. This year marks the 90th edition of the Paris Motor Show, and it will serve as the launch platform for the next generation of MINI’s electric performance lineup. The two highly anticipated models are expected to include the MINI John Cooper Works E, based on the three-door Cooper hatchback, as well as a JCW E version of the Aceman crossover.
MINI’s announcement highlights its move to bring the brand's motorsport heritage into the electric era, describing the new vehicles as an “innovative power” transfer from the racetrack to the road. The company stated that the new JCW models will offer exclusive, sporty designs and optimised aerodynamic features to improve energy efficiency.
The upcoming all-electric JCW models have been teased before their official unveiling. MINI showcased a ‘Prototype’ version of the Cooper-based John Cooper Works E at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year. The prototype featured a sportier body kit, similar to the JCW Trim version of the Cooper SE, with aggressive front and rear diffusers, side skirts, and a larger wheel and tyre package. The new models are expected to retain similar styling elements, further enhancing their performance-driven aesthetics.
While the interior details have yet to be fully revealed, industry leaks suggest the vehicles will likely follow the same trend as other JCW models, offering sportier interior trims. Expect upgrades such as suede upholstery, contrast red accents, and bucket-style front seats, all of which are designed to elevate the driving experience.
In terms of performance, MINI has not disclosed exact specifications for the new electric JCW models. However, the current MINI Cooper SE, powered by a 215 bhp/ 330 Nm electric motor paired with a 54.2 kWh lithium-ion battery, delivers a 0-100 kmph time of 6.7 seconds and a range of 402 km, based on the WLTP cycle. The upcoming JCW E models are expected to improve upon these figures, aligning them with Mini's performance standards.
