The upcoming electric bike will be used in the B2B segment for cargo and delivery purposes, though.
We had already reported exclusively last year that Ahmedabad-based Matter Energy is working on a new bike. That the upcoming electric bike will be more affordable than the Aera 5000, which currently retails at ₹1.94 lakh (ex-showroom), was also known back then. Now reports state that this upcoming bike will launch in the next 2-3 years. It will be a B2B offering and will be equivalent to a 125 cc bike. The brand stated that it was launching in the commercial electric vehicle to align with the growing demand for light commercial vehicles.
Matter Energy currently has only one offering in the EV market in the form of the Aera 5000. It’s the only electric motorcycle of its kind in the world that comes with a conventional 4-speed gearbox with a proper clutch gear– to give a riding experience similar to an ICE-powered bike. Whether Matter uses the gearbox in its upcoming bike or not remains to be seen. Additionally, the battery pack will also be another point of contention here. For reference, the Aera 5000 is powered by a 5 kWh battery that powers a 10 kW electric motor which is good enough for a top speed of 105 kmph. Given the purpose of the upcoming electric bike will be more about saving operation costs, we can expect a smaller powertrain that will be focused to extract more range. To know how the bike rides, check out our first ride review below:
Alongside expanding its line-up, Matter is also working on expanding overseas. Besides India, the brand also plans to launch in South East Asia, Africa, and Eastern-Southern Europe in 2026. Accessories and apparels business are also in its pipeline wherein Matter plans to export protective gears and bike-specific clothing by early next year.
