10,000 units of the i20 N Line and Venue N Line were sold in India in 2023.
In the wake of the N Line models’ sales doubling in 2023 compared to 2022, Hyundai India has announced that it will be introducing more N Line models in India in the future. These higher-performance versions of its products have done well, having sold 10,000 units in 2023 and the sales are split between the i20 N Line and Venue N Line.
Speaking during a media interaction, Tarun Garg, Hyundai India’s Chief Operating Officer, said, “N Line is a very niche product and we are happy with the numbers it has got us. In fact, there will be more N Line products that we will launch in India very soon and we are expecting sales to reach 15,000-20,000 units in the next few years"
Hyundai hasn’t confirmed which N Line models will be coming to India, but expect the Creta, Verna and Tucson N Line models to make it here. While Exter could also be a good platform for an N Line model, Hyundai is currently focussing on increasing its sales rather than introducing a new variant.
The upcoming N Line models will feature the brand’s new 158 bhp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, which Hyundai says will be a mainstay in its portfolio. Interestingly, the current Creta N Line, which is sold in Latin American markets, gets a choice of either a 166 bhp, 2.0-litre petrol engine or a 118 bhp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. However, the India-spec Creta N Line could get the 1.5-litre engine.
As of now, there is no N Line version of the Verna globally, but Hyundai could introduce this sporty trim on the compact sedan since it already comes with the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and India is the only market where the new Verna is manufactured.
Because the N Line caters to a niche segment, Hyundai India is not expecting big volumes from this space. We wait to see how this strategy pans out for the company.
