The Hyundai Exter is the latest offering from the South Korean automaker. With this launch, Hyundai enters the popular micro-SUV segment, with rivals like Tata Punch. The Exter features Hyundai’s new design language, which is also seen on the new Hyundai Verna. Despite being a micro-SUV, the boxy exterior design renders a rugged look to the Exter.

The Hyundai Exter is available with a 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. The engine is also available in the CNG variant. The Hyundai Exter features the new boxy design language, which looks apt for a micro-SUV. When you look at the front fascia, you will no longer find Hyundai’s signature cascading grill. Instead, there’s a new parametric grille finished in black colour. The grille also houses the headlamps, and above that are the signature H-shaped LED DRLs. Other highlights of the front end include a skid plate and the Exter lettering above the grille.

The Hyundai Exter’s side profile is reminiscent of a typical micro-SUV. It features stylish diamond-cut alloy wheels, squared wheel arches and black body cladding. The blacked-out pillars and the roof rails add to the rugged look of the Exter.

The rear profile of the Exter is simple yet elegant. It features the H-shape tail lights, a black strip connecting the tail light cluster, a skid plate, a roof-mounted spoiler and a shark-fin antenna. Overall, the Hyundai Exter features a fresh design with a touch of ruggedness.

Interior and Features

The Hyundai Exter’s interior features an all-black theme with a contrast colour treatment for the AC vents and AC controls. The contrast colour match with the exterior colour. The overall design of the interior feels familiar as it is borrowed from the Grand i10 Nios. However, it is a very much likeable design with a neatly laid-out dashboard.

The dashboard is dominated by an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Other prominent features of the Exter include an electric sunroof, wireless charger, cruise control, automatic climate control, engine start/stop button, footwell ambient lighting, cooled glove compartment, and much more. Note that some of the features mentioned may be limited to top-spec variants.

The rear seat passengers also get a good experience, thanks to generous headroom, knee room and foot room. The rear seat offers good comfort. However, the width of the seat may be a concern if there are three passengers. The rear passengers also get AC vents and adjustable headrests.

The interior is practical enough with several storage spaces, including cup holders, door pockets, etc. Being a micro-SUV, you expect generous boot space, and Exter’s boot space stands at 391 litres.
