The Razr 50 Ultra's 4-inch external display is the largest on any clamshell-style foldable phone.
After weeks of anticipation, Motorola has announced the launch of its new flagship foldable, the Razr 50 Ultra, in India. This smartphone stands out against its clamshell foldable competitors thanks to a huge 4-inch external screen which enables access to Google’s Gemini AI tools even with the phone closed.
The device is officially priced at Rs. 99,999 in India, though launch offers potentially bring that down to Rs. 89,999. A pair of Moto Buds+ true wireless earphones, worth Rs. 9,999, is included with each purchase. A three-month subscription to the Google One AI Premium plan, including Gemini Advanced plus 2TB of cloud storage is included, after which it will cost Rs. 1,950 per month. The Razr 50 Ultra goes on sale on July 20 to coincide with Amazon India’s Prime Day sale event. Pre-orders will open on July 10.
Motorola has developed new functionality for the Razr 50 Ultra’s large external display, including the ability to browse and manage Google Photos. Users can also browse content, play games, take selfies, check map directions, send messages, and control media playback all without flipping the phone open. The 4-inch outer screen has a 1080x1272-pixel resolution, 165Hz peak refresh rate, 10-bit colour reproduction with HDR10+ support, and peak brightness of 1500nits. Motorola has even used Corning Gorilla Glass Victus to make the external display more durable.
On the inside, there’s a 6.9-inch pOLED panel which Motorola calls “virtually creaseless”. This display also has up to a 165Hz refresh rate, 1500nit brightness, and HDR10+ certification. It is also rated for 120 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut reproduction.
The Razr 50 Ultra is powered by Qualcomm’s flagship-class Snadpragon 8s Gen 3 SoC. It’s available in only one configuration with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. It has a 4000mAh battery and can be charged at up to 45W, though it ships with a 68W charger in the box. There’s also 15W wireless charging support.
On the rear, there’s a 50-megapixel primary camera with a f/1.7 aperture and OIS, along with a secondary 50-megapixel 2X telephoto camera, with an f/2.0 aperture. Motorola’s software uses AI to enhance optical zoom shots up to 30X as well as boost dynamic range and improve focus tracking and stabilisation. You also get a 32-megapixel front camera on the internal display.
The Razr 50 Ultra works with one nano-SIM and one eSIM. It supports Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 7, and NFC. There’s a fingerprint sensor on the side, and stereo speakers.
AI features have also been integrated into the messaging experience, with personalised custom emojis and response suggestions. The Moto UX can also generate wallpapers based on photos so you can match your phone to your outfit or surroundings. Sensitive information in screenshots can automatically be blurred, and users can generate images from text prompts.
The new Motorola Razr 50 Ultra weighs 189g and is 15.32mm thick when closed or 7.09mm when open. Its frame is made of aluminium, and the rear panel has a vegan leather finish. It’s also rated IPX8 which means it is water resistant, but still susceptible to dust ingress. This phone will be available in Midnight Blue, Spring Green, and Peach Fuzz.
