TVS MD Sudarshan Venu mentions that EVs will be a top priority for the brand going forward.
In a recent shareholders’ meeting, TVS’ Managing Director Sudharshan Venu has announced that the Indian two-wheeler manufacturer will be focusing its priorities towards electric propulsion going forwards. He has mentioned that there will be a couple of electric vehicles that will launch this year, including a new electric two-wheeler.
Venu said, “EV continues to be front and center of our priorities going forward. In terms of new energy vehicles and in terms of embracing the future, we are making very strong investments and you will see more launches in terms of electric three-wheelers, and more affordable, yet stylish and aspirational electric scooters later this year.”
Currently, TVS only has the iQube in its electric scooter line-up with the X not available on sale. TVS did launch a couple of iQube variants this year with a new affordable, small battery pack option coming in at ₹ 84,999 (ex-showroom). We also finally did get the top-of-the-line ST trim with two battery pack options, the dearest of them all being priced at ₹ 1.83 lakh (ex-showroom).
Since TVS has cracked the code when it comes to the family-oriented scooters, perhaps we might see it take the plunge into something that is sporty and adheres to the racing ethos of the brand. The TVS X feels more like a technological showcase, where the performance on hand was not really wowing. Also, its asking price was too hard to digest. Hence, we might just hope to get something that is more of a sporty intentful e-scooter to go up against the likes of the Ather 450S/X and the Ola S1 Pro, with competitive pricing.
We do know that TVS’ German ally, BMW Motorrad, already has plans to launch the CE 02 electric bike in the next couple of months. In fact, the CE 02 and the TVS X are built on the same platform in Hosur itself. Hence, we might see some final stage development on the X as well.
But prior to that, TVS is readying for the launch of a new product in late-August, with the high likelihood of it being the new-generation Jupiter 110. Head here for more details.
