Chetak was one of the top-selling electric two-wheeler models last year with around 2.70 lakh units sold, capturing a 21 percent market share in its segment.
Bajaj will be launching a new version of the Chetak tomorrow. The homegrown two-wheeler manufacturer had recently confirmed the same through a teaser of the upcoming electric scooter. The new Bajaj Chetak is expected to bring in a revised styling along with some new functional updates. The upcoming scooter is expected to be the most affordable in the Chetak lineup. Here’s a rundown of what to expect from the new Bajaj Chetak electric scooter.
The launch invite sent out by Bajaj Auto signalled a revised LED taillamp cluster which is very different from the current split LED taillight setup. The existing model features the Chetak badge positioned at the centre, flanked by vertically oriented tail-lights on either side. The new design replaces this layout with a horizontal LED taillight, incorporating indicators at both ends and Chetak branding positioned above it.

The retro styling will be retained albeit with some subtle changes and tighter bodywork. The model is expected to move away from the brand’s signature all-metal construction in favour of lighter and more cost-effective materials. This change should help lower overall weight, a key factor in improving efficiency and delivering a more practical real-world range in an electric scooter.

To keep the price in check, Bajaj is expected to offer a more basic LCD instrument cluster as opposed to the TFT unit available in the Chetak 35 Series. The current Chetak range gets two battery packs — a 3 kWh and a 3.5 kWh unit — offered in the 3001 and the 35 Series. We expect Bajaj to continue with the smaller battery unit for the new Chetak although the possibility of a smaller battery cannot be ruled out. Previous spy shots have also hinted at a simpler suspension setup on the e-scooter.

As already mentioned, the new Bajaj Chetak is expected to be the most affordable in the range undercutting the ₹1 lakh mark. It is likely to be priced at around ₹90,000 when it launches. This will put the new Bajaj Chetak up against the likes of Hero Vida VX2, Ola S1 X, and the base variant of TVS iQube.
