The new-gen Renault Duster underwent multiple terrains and challenging environments during the testing period, including dust tunnels, water-wading zones, sub-zero conditions, steep inclines, and high ambient temperatures, apart from city roads.
The new-gen Renault Duster for India is slated to arrive on January 26, 2026, and the company has revealed the SUV clocked over one million kilometres in global testing. The automaker has announced the new Duster was across three continents at varying temperatures between 23 degrees and 55 degrees. The number certainly helps keep the anticipation high about the Duster making a comeback in a premium yet rugged avatar.
Renault says the upcoming Duster completed high-altitude testing in Leh-Ladakh, reaching Khardung La at a height of 18,379 feet. The SUV underwent multiple terrains and challenging environments over the course of the testing period, including dust tunnels, water-wading zones, sub-zero conditions, steep inclines, and high ambient temperatures, apart from city roads.

Renault revealed the one million kilometres distance was covered across R&D tracks, proving grounds, and public roads across the world. In India, the new Duster was tested at specialised government test tracks including NATRAX, ARAI, GARC, and ICAT. The vehicle was tested for its readiness in rough terrain, different speed breaker profiles, and bumper-to-bumper city traffic. Apart from India, the new-gen Duster was also tested in Brazil, Romania, France, China, and the Czech Republic.
Speaking about the testing milestone, Stephane Deblaise – CEO, Renault Group India, shared, “Completing 1 million kilometres of testing across three continents is not just a validation target for us — it is a statement of intent. We have taken the new Duster to the most demanding terrains and climates on the planet, including the extremes of the Himalayas, to ensure that when this Icon returns to India, it does so fully prepared for real-world Indian conditions. We believe true capability cannot be rushed. This milestone reflects our confidence that the reborn Duster is engineered to deliver uncompromised performance, safety, and durability — no matter where or how it is driven.”
Renault says the extreme durability test showcases the Duster’s positioning as a vehicle for all seasons. Moreover, it aims to carry forward the legacy of the first generation model, while raising its rugged capabilities and on-road safety.
With a renewed focus on the Indian market, the new Duster is Renault's big ticket to success, something the first generation effortlessly achieved. That said, the market is dynamically different since the Duster was on sale the last time, and highly competitive too. The rugged nature would give the model a different identity in a sea of urban SUVs. More details on the new Duster will be available later this month.
