Currently, in its eighth generation now, the Toyota Hilux in India is priced between Rs 28.00 lakh and Rs 35.27 lakh (both ex-showroom).
Toyota has teased a new generation model of the Hilux. The Japanese carmaker has shared a small teaser of the upgraded pickup truck on the Toyota Motor Thailand YouTube channel which confirms the date of unveil as 10 November 2025. The short video shares a partial glimpse of the upcoming ninth generation model of the popular UTE suggesting an overhaul in its appearance.
While the silhouette of the new Hilux will most likely be similar, the design may witness significant changes as compared to the current model. The front fascia wears a different look with sleeker LED headlights and new J-shaped daytime running lights. The nose hosts a “TOYOTA” lettering in bold. This is accompanied by a sculpted bonnet that has a recessed centre section.

At the rear, the taillights have been redesigned from their earlier “3”-shaped signature to a new C-shaped layout. Like the front end, the tailgate also features the “TOYOTA” lettering, with the grab handle integrated alongside the model badge and the third brake light. Additionally, a new alloy wheel design with a distinctive seven-point star pattern has been introduced.
As of now, details regarding features and specifications of the new-gen Toyota Hilux are very thin. We expect Toyota to make the Hilux a bit more sophisticated this time with some premium quality and soft-touch materials inside the cabin while retaining its utilitarian and rugged nature. Digital screens and storage compartments are almost a given like any contemporary premium vehicle.
Interestingly, the new-gen Toyota Hilux will retain the current IMV platform while making some tweaks to it. This means the 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine will be retained as well. This engine recently got upgraded with a 48V mild-hybrid system which has made it to the Fortuner on sale in India. This motor churns out 201 bhp and 500 Nm (420 Nm with MT) of peak torque.

Transmission duties will be carried out either by a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Power will be sent to all four wheels by a 4x4 drivetrain with the help of a low-range transfer case. There are also reports of Toyota introducing a plug-hybrid or a fully-electric derivative of the Hilux at some point in the future but we can’t verify the same at this point in time.
Toyota Hilux isn’t a high-volume selling model by any means but it is popular among enthusiasts who wish for a proper lifestyle pickup truck. Therefore, it is highly likely that the Japanese carmaker will bring it to India sometime in the future.
