The Syros slots between the Sonet and Seltos in Kia India’s line-up.
Kia India has introduced a new subcompact SUV in India, called the Syros. The Syros will slot between the Sonet and the Seltos in Kia’s lineup in India. The focus of the Syros is towards the rear seat passengers. Kia will open the order books for the new Syros on January 3, 2025, with deliveries to begin by early February.
The Syros has a boxier design than the Sonet and has a tall upright stance. Like other new Kia models, the Syros also gets the ‘Starmap’ LED DRLs and taillamps, as well as the ‘Digital Tiger Face’. For the first time in a mass-market Kia model in India, the Syros comes with pop-out door handles. It also rides on 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. Furthermore, the Syros gets eight monotone colour options and gets a new Frost Blue Colour option.
Inside, the Syros gets a triple-screen layout, much like the EV9, with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3-inch virtual cluster, and a 5-inch screen between the two that houses AC controls. Unlike the Sonet, the Syros gets a panoramic sunroof and borrows its steering wheel from the EV9. Since Kia is focusing more on the rear seat passengers, the Syros gets ventilation, slide, and recline functions for the second row.
Other features on the Syros include a 4-way adjustable powered driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, a wireless charger, an air purifier, a dashcam, 360-degree cameras, rear sunshade curtains, as well as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Safety features on the Syros include six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, ABS with EBD, stability control, hill start assist, ISOFIX, three-point seatbelts with reminders for all seats, and front and rear parking sensors.
The Syros will be available in six trims: HTK, HTK (O), HTK+, HTX, HTX+, and HTX+ (O). Again, unlike the Sonet, the Syros will only come with a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Both engines get a 6-speed manual transmission, and while the turbo-petrol gets a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, the diesel gets a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
Prices for the Syros will be announced sometime in January and are expected to range between ₹9-15 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Once launched, the Syros will debut the likes of the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue, and Skoda Kylaq.
