The bookings for the new E-Class are now underway.
Mercedes-Benz India has commenced the production of the all-new E-Class LWB in the country ahead of its launch on October 9. The BMW 5 Series rival is being locally produced at the brand’s manufacturing facility located in Chakan, Pune. With this, India becomes the only market across the globe to produce the LWB E-Class in its RHD iteration. The bookings for the new E-Class are now underway.
The new E-Class LWB is notably larger than its predecessor, measuring 5,092 mm long, 17 mm longer than the outgoing model. It also has a 15 mm longer wheelbase, now at 3,094 mm, promising more roominess, particularly for rear-seat passengers.
The new E-Class LWB will be available in two variants: the petrol-powered E 200 and the diesel-powered E 220d. The E 200 is powered by a 1999 cc, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol M254 engine that produces 201 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the E 220d variant houses a 1950 cc, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel OM654M engine delivering 194 bhp and an impressive 440 Nm of torque.
Both engines are equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid system featuring an integrated starter generator, which can contribute an additional 23 bhp and 205 Nm of torque for short bursts of up to 30 seconds. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a smooth 9-speed automatic transmission.
While the official prices of the new E-Class LWB are yet to be announced, we expect it to be priced above the outgoing model, which ranges from ₹76.05 lakh to ₹89.15 lakh (ex-showroom). Its closest rival is the BMW 5-Series LWB, which is currently priced at ₹72.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
