The long-wheelbase version of the sixth-gen E-Class will launch in India next year.
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the long-wheelbase (LWB) version of the latest E-Class. It will arrive in India in the second half of 2024, and is set to go on sale in China first where it will be called the ‘E-Class L’. Like the standard E-Class, the LWB is also available in standard and AMG trims.
Like the previous-gen E-Class LWB sold in India, the new LWB model looks like a mini Maybach with the greenhouse extending beyond the stretched rear door. Overall, the sixth-gen E-Class LWB (V214) looks very similar on the outside to the standard E-Class (W214) and its design falls in line with the new S-Class and C-Class in Mercedes-Benz’s portfolio.
In terms of dimensions, the new E-Class LWB measures 5,092 mm, 1,880 mm and 1,493 mm in length, width and height and has a wheelbase of 3,094 mm. This makes it 18 mm longer and 20 mm wider than its predecessor and has a 15 mm longer wheelbase.
In China, the E-Class LWB gets the MBUX Superscreen setup as standard on some trims. It consists of three screens – a 14.4-inch central screen, a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch screen in front of the passenger. The rear seats in the LWB version also get the option of an electrically adjustable leg rest, can recline by up to 36 degrees and also get a neck heating function. Other features on the E-Class LWB include ambient lighting all around the cabin and a Burmester sound system.
Powertrain options currently include a six-cylinder engine in China, with more options to be added later. Mercedes-Benz is expected to continue offering four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines in India, with the probability of a sole six-cylinder engine (E 350d). However, the engine and transmission options that will be offered in India with the new E-Class LWB are yet to be confirmed by the brand.
