Mini India will first launch the ICE version, with the EV coming later this year.
Mini India has opened bookings for the fourth-gen Mini Cooper India and it is expected to launch sometime in July, according to our sources. The new Mini Cooper can be booked for a token amount of ₹1 lakh, however, its prices are yet to be revealed.
According to the website, Mini India is currently accepting bookings for the ICE version and the Mini EV could come sometime later. It is interesting since, the Mini EV debuted globally first (in September 2023), while the ICE version debuted in February earlier this year.
The fourth-generation Mini retains the iconic design language with circular headlamps which now circular LED DRLs. The grille has more of a hexagonal design than the circular one seen in the outgoing model. The Mini Cooper comes with up to 18-inch alloy wheels and disc brakes on all four wheels. At the back, it gets a ‘Union Jack’ design for the lightning elements in the taillamp.
Inside, the Mini Cooper gets a circular, 9.4-inch infotainment touchscreen that runs on Mini Operating System 9 and has an OLED display. It doesn’t come with a driver’s display, instead, all of the information is displayed on the central screen. The new Mini also gets ADAS tech with 12 sensors and cameras.
Under the hood, the Mini Cooper gets two engines – a 154 bhp, 230 Nm, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a 201 bhp, 300 Nm, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol. Both engines are mated to a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. However, it remains to be seen which powertrain option will be offered in the India-spec model.
The current, third-gen Mini Cooper is priced at ₹42.70 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and expect the upcoming Mini Cooper to be priced at a premium. The Mini Cooper does not have a direct competitor in India but concerning price, it will see competition from the Mercedes-Benz A-Class (₹46.05 - 48.55 lakh), Mercedes-Benz GLA (₹51.75 - 58.15 lakh), BMW 2 Series (₹45.90 - 46.90 lakh), BMW X1 (₹45.90 - 52.50 lakh) and Audi Q3 (₹44.25 - 54.65 lakh), all prices are ex-showroom, India.
