The new Taycan facelift makes it the fastest production car that Porsche sells

The latest iteration of Porsche's Taycan electric vehicle has earned the title of the fastest production car in the renowned German automaker's lineup. The revamp significantly boosts the vehicle's range, performance, charging speed, and onboard technology, drawing inspiration from competitors like Tesla, Lucid Motors, and Rivian. The upgraded Taycan, available as a sports sedan or the Cross Turismo sport wagon, now features larger battery packs and an innovative 800V charging system. Pricing for the sedan starts at $101,395 and goes up to $210,995, while the Cross Turismo Sport ranges from $113,095 to $213,695.

Porsche now offers an impressive 105kWh battery as part of its performance battery plus package, boasting one of the fastest charging times in the world, capable of reaching 80% charge in just 18 minutes. This outpaces other 800V EVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Kia EV6. The Taycan can now utilise 320kW charging stations, a significant upgrade from its previous 50kW limit.

The Taycan also features a new 150kW DC/DC converter to optimise charging speeds on 400V networks, a state-of-the-art thermal management system, and a next-generation heat pump. Porsche has revamped the recuperation system, increasing gas by 30 percent and enhancing the all-wheel-drive system. A new motor on the rear axle boosts power by up to 80kW, and the addition of 21-inch wheels reduces rolling resistance and improves aerodynamics.

The rear wheel drive Taycan can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 4.5 seconds, three-tenths faster than its predecessor. The Taycan Turbo S, however, can achieve the same speed in 2.3 seconds, nearly matching the Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air. This performance underpins Porsche's claim of producing its fastest vehicle ever while retaining the brand's legendary driving dynamics.

The Taycan Turbo S, when using its launch control model, benefits from an additional 140kW of power, equating to 938 hp. A "push to pass" button provides a 10-second boost of an extra 94 hp.

Interior options now include a leather-free alternative with a high-quality microfibre material known as Race Tex. Remarkably, Porsche reports that the prototype traveled 587km on a single charge, even under challenging weather conditions.

The Taycan also premieres the new Apple CarPlay experience showcased at WWDC 2022, featuring deeper integration with the car's display and functions. Porsche anticipates being one of the first manufacturers to implement this immersive version of CarPlay. A new In-Car-Video function enables video streaming on the central and passenger displays.

Porsche reports nearly 150,000 Taycans produced, with the US, Germany, China, and the UK as its primary markets. This follows the unveiling of the new electric Macan SUV, set to launch later this year, along with electric versions of the 718 two-seater and a plug-in hybrid Cayenne. The automaker is also developing a new electric SUV to complement its lineup.
