Based on the Renault Triber, Nissan Gravite packs all basic features but misses out on a few novel features.
Nissan launched the Gravite yesterday at an introductory price of ₹5.65 lakh (ex-showroom) for the first 1,001 bookings. The most impressive thing about the Nissan Gravite has to be its “killer” pricing that even undercuts the Renault Triber (₹5.76 lakh starting, ex-showroom) — the model which it is based on.
The Gravite is more than decently equipped as far as features are concerned and yet in order to keep the prices in check, it misses out on some creature comforts that have become a common occurrence, especially in the sub-compact SUV space. Here are five common contemporary features that the Gravite misses out on.
An electric sunroof might be an overrated feature for Indian conditions but it has become increasingly popular in the last few years. Even similarly priced sub-compact SUVs like Tata Punch (₹ 5.60–10.55 lakh) and Hyundai Exter (₹ 5.74–9.61 lakh) get the option of a single-pane electric sunroof in the higher variant, which Nissan doesn’t offer with the Gravite.
Apart from entry-level hatchback, almost all cars today get the option of alloy wheel, at least in the top-spec trim. However, that’s not the case with the Gravite as it has to make do with 15-inch steel wheels with some stylish wheel covers.
USB charging ports are a very common occurrence even in entry-level cars. Modern cars come equipped with USB ports at the rear seats as well. However, in the Nissan Gravite, a USB charging port is available only in the front centre console. Although not a big deal breaker, the lack of a USB charging port makes a dent in the Gravite’s convenience.
Once a novelty in only selected premium models, 360-degree camera has become a very mainstream covenience and safety feature. Even in affordable mass-market cars, 360-degree camera has found a strong place among recent launches. It provides a more comprehensive visual about the car’s surroundings
A working navigation system is very crucial, especially for vehicles that regularly ply on national highways and expressways. The lack of a proper built-in navigation in the Nissan Gravite means users have to connect their phones to the infotainment system to access navigation via Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
