Second-gen Mercedes-Benz GLB with seven seats debuts globally. The electric variant will launch first, which will no longer carry the EQB nameplate.
Mercedes-Benz has revealed the second-generation GLB compact SUV. The EQB brand name has been dropped from this generation, and the electric version of this new SUV will be called GLB with EQ Technology.
The GLB EV leads the launch, featuring an 85 kWh battery pack that provides up to 631 km WLTP range in the rear-wheel-drive GLB 250+ and 614 km in the all-wheel-drive GLB 350 4Matic. Built on an 800V system, it supports DC fast charging at up to 320 kW.
Power outputs are 272 bhp for the 250+ and 353 bhp for the 350, with the latter achieving 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. A smaller 58 kWh battery option may follow for shorter-range needs.
Internal combustion models will join later, starting with a 48-volt mild-hybrid 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. This setup includes a 1.3 kWh lithium-ion battery for improved efficiency. Diesel variants are expected in select markets, though specifics remain pending.
Exterior updates retain the boxy, practical shape with a full-width LED light bar, integrated three-pointed star in the headlamps, and a prominent studded grille bearing a large Mercedes badge. Electric models add illuminated star patterns in the grille.
The side view includes squared wheel arches, roof rails, flush door handles, and a subtle roofline slope. At the rear, a more defined wraparound windscreen and simplified window line distinguish it from the predecessor.
Inside, the cabin offers five- or seven-seat configurations with enhanced space: 35 mm more front headroom, 68 mm in the second row, and 10 mm in the third, despite a marginally lower roof height.
The optional MBUX Superscreen integrates a 12.3-inch instrument cluster with two 14-inch displays for infotainment and passenger use. Powered by the latest MB.OS, it includes an AI voice assistant and Google Maps integration. For EVs, navigation accounts for factors like terrain, weather, and charger locations. A panoramic sunroof with optional 158 illuminated stars adds to the features.
The first-gen EQB was launched in India in 2022 as a CBU, and was discontinued earlier this year. The India launch details of this second-gen model remain unknown as of now.
