The company sold 10,025 units in the month, with overseas shipments continuing to account for two-thirds of total volumes.

Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd. (NMIPL) reported total wholesales of 10,025 units in September 2026, the company said, with domestic sales nearly doubling year-on-year even as exports continued to form the bulk of its output.

Domestic wholesales stood at 3,300 units, up 100 per cent from 1,652 units in September last year, according to figures released by the company. Exports accounted for 6,725 units during the month, making up roughly two-thirds of Nissan's total volumes from India.

The domestic growth was driven by demand across Nissan's SUV lineup, led by the recently introduced Tekton alongside the Magnite and Gravite, the company said. NMIPL attributed the uptick to its expanding dealer network and a product strategy built around the SUV segment, which has become the primary growth driver in India's passenger vehicle market over the past two years.

Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, said the domestic volumes "validating Nissan's product-led strategy, the strength and capability of our network, the contribution of our finance and business partners, and the increasing confidence of Indian customers in the Nissan brand." He added that the company remained "confident about the opportunity ahead" and credited international dealers and distributors for sustaining export momentum.

The export performance underscores India's role as a manufacturing base within Nissan's global operations. The company's wholesale structure, in which shipments abroad outweigh domestic sales by a wide margin, is run under its "One Car. One World." approach, which applies common quality standards to vehicles built in India for both local and overseas markets.

Nissan has operated on the margins of India's passenger vehicle market for much of the past decade, with volumes far behind those of segment leaders such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors and Mahindra. The Magnite, launched in 2020, gave the brand its first meaningful domestic traction, and the company has since sought to build on that with the Gravite and the newer Tekton as it tries to widen its presence in the compact and mid-size SUV space — currently the fastest-growing segment in the Indian market.

Whether September's domestic growth marks a durable shift or a month-specific spike will depend on how wholesale volumes translate into retail sales, a distinction that matters given the gap between dispatches to dealers and actual registrations in India's passenger vehicle trade. Nissan has not disclosed retail figures for the month.
