Eyeing 2026 as a turnaround year for sales in India and also a strengthen its exports from the country, Japanese auto major Nissan is aiming to ship 1 lakh units to key global markets and sell another 1 lakh models within the country. According to Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India, the automaker is confident of scaling up both domestic and export sales in the country.
"...This new financial year, we are looking at close to 100,000 units in terms of domestic sales and 100,000 units of models exported. So, obviously, we are building up volume. So, going from one single car to we will be a two-car company and a mainstream volume car company. It is pretty interesting now," Vatsa told ACKO Drive at the launch of its newest model Nissan Granite.
In the ten months of FY26 (from April 2025 to January 2026) the auto OEM manufactured 89,987 vehicles at its Indian facility, of which 17,662 were sold within the country and 68,091 were shipped to global markets. This is against the full-year output of around 99,000 units in FY2025, when exports reached around 71,000 vehicles.

It is to be noted that the Japanese carmaker currently sends its India-made models to over 65 countries and holds a position among the five largest passenger vehicle exporters from the country. Looking ahead, Nissan intends to grow its retail presence from 160 outlets to upwards of 250 by FY2026-27, while also pushing its after-sales workshop count beyond 175 in the next financial year.
The network expansion ties into a broader product roadmap. Over the next year, Nissan India plans to have four cars on sale in the country, all of which will be manufactured locally. These models will join the Nissan Magnite, which has been the brand's primary sales workhorse in the country since it went on sale. Looking further ahead, Nissan has outlined plans to introduce additional locally built models by 2027 as part of a wider multi-product approach for the Indian market.
