Nissan has launched its Tekton compact SUV in India, and one of its key selling points will be a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating. The evaluation is based on the independent agency’s testing of the Renault Duster, which it describes as a “corporate twin” to the Tekton. The two models are built on the same platform called RGMP (Renault Global Modular Platform) and have identical body structures and safety equipment, which qualifies the Tekton to use the same ratings awarded to the Duster in March this year.
As a result, the Nissan Tekton can boast of an Adult Protection Score of 30.49 out of a maximum possible 32 points, and a Child Protection Score of 45 out of 49. The Duster managed Good and Adequate scores for head, neck, chest, and lower body safety in all crash tests: frontal offset deformable barrier, side movable deformable barrier, and side pole impact. As for child safety, it aced the Dynamic Score and Child Restraint System Installation Score, but lacks child seat installation fixtures in the front passenger seat and second-row centre position.

The scores apply to the T160MT, T280MT and T280 DCT powertrain options, across variants named Visia, Visia+, Acenta, N-Connecta, Tekna, and Tekna+. ESC comes as a standard feature for all variants, along with side head protection in the form of curtain airbags, seatbelt reminders, and a pedestrian protection system.
Renault and Nissan have long shared platforms and engineering capabilities, benefiting from common component sourcing and manufacturing at scale. This has resulted in the two brands offering very similar models in the Indian market, differentiated mainly by design, features, positioning and pricing.
