Nissan Motor India has unveiled the name and design preview of the Tekton, a compact SUV set to rival the Hyundai Creta. Built on the CMF-B platform, it’s slated for a mid-2026 launch.
Nissan Motor India has announced the name and shared a design preview of its upcoming C-SUV, the Nissan Tekton.
Positioned as a competitor to the Hyundai Creta, and built on the same CMF-B platform as the forthcoming latest-gen Renault Duster, the Tekton is scheduled for a mid-2026 launch in India.
The vehicle will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai for domestic sales and select export markets.
The name "Tekton," derived from Greek, translates to "craftsman" or "architect," reflecting Nissan's focus on engineering and design.
The teaser showcased design elements inspired by the Nissan Patrol, with a front featuring C-shaped headlamps and a structured bonnet. The side profile includes a "Double-C" accent on the doors, incorporating a subtle Himalayan mountain range motif.
A rear lightbar connects C-shaped tail-lamps, maintaining design consistency. The vehicle aims to combine functionality with visual appeal, tailored for India's dense traffic conditions.
The Tekton's design was developed at Nissan's studio in Atsugi, Japan, with contributions from teams in London, California, and Inha. Engineering work took place in Chennai, leveraging the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance platform.
According to the Japanese company, the design process focused on minimal compromises, with features like reduced panel gaps for aerodynamics and pedestrian safety considerations, such as taller front ends for impact absorption.
The Tekton targets the compact SUV segment, aiming to offer an alternative to popular models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, et al.
Nissan plans to cater to both Indian buyers and select global markets under its "One Car, One World" strategy, following the export model of the Magnite. The interior and powertrain details remain undisclosed, but they might be revealed in a series of teasers in the future.
The Tekton is part of Nissan's efforts to strengthen its presence in India. Currently, the Japanese company is thriving on just one mass market model, the Magnite.
The company aims to meet customer expectations through varied product offerings, avoiding uniform designs. Tekton, Nissan claims, incorporates technology-focused elements, such as advanced lighting, while maintaining a balance between aesthetics and safety standards.
Nissan confirmed the Tekton will launch in mid-2026, with further details on specifications, export markets, and pricing to be announced closer to the date.
