Nissan has officially revealed its new range-topping Patrol NISMO at an exclusive event in Dubai. Developed by a hand-selected team of NISMO engineers with deep motorsport roots, the performance SUV marks a renewed focus on the Middle Eastern market, where the Patrol nameplate has long enjoyed cult status.
The Patrol NISMO is powered by the same 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine (VR35DDTT) found in the standard Patrol, but with performance figures significantly dialled up. In Sport mode, the engine produces 488 bhp—a 69 bhp increase over the standard version—and delivers 700 Nm of torque. While Nissan has not disclosed official acceleration figures, the Patrol NISMO is expected to complete the 0–100 kmph sprint in approximately 6 seconds, making it one of the fastest full-size SUVs in the segment.
This performance puts the new Patrol NISMO well ahead of the Patrol Warrior V8 variant, which produces 400 bhp. It’s worth noting that the twin-turbo V6 is hand-assembled at Nissan’s Iwaki Plant in Japan, a process that includes manual valve clearance adjustments and individual tuning by NISMO engine specialists. The engine also features a distinctive red NISMO engine cover and a commemorative metal plate, underscoring the attention to detail in its craftsmanship.
Complementing the upgraded powertrain is a suite of mechanical and aerodynamic enhancements. The 9-speed automatic transmission has been recalibrated for quicker shifts and is paired with paddle shifters, enhancing driver engagement. The suspension setup has been retuned by NISMO and now includes E-Dampers, offering real-time adaptive damping for improved ride and handling dynamics.
Visually, the Patrol NISMO distinguishes itself with a significantly more aggressive exterior. The front bumper has been redesigned to optimise airflow to the brakes, resulting in a claimed 6% reduction in disc temperatures under heavy use. The aerodynamic package includes GT-R-inspired styling cues, such as a three-piece rear spoiler, side splitters, and layered rear diffusers—elements aimed at enhancing high-speed stability and downforce.
The SUV rides on 22-inch forged aluminium alloy wheels developed in partnership with RAYS, which are 23% lighter than the standard wheels. This not only reduces unsprung mass but also improves lateral stiffness and brake cooling efficiency. The rims house a revised braking setup designed to withstand the increased demands of high-performance driving in the region’s harsh climatic conditions.
Inside, the Patrol NISMO retains its luxury SUV underpinnings while infusing it with performance accents. However, one area likely to divide opinions is the NISMO-tuned exhaust system, which integrates Active Sound Enhancement (ASE). This system augments the natural engine note with digitally generated sound, a feature that has drawn criticism for detracting from the authenticity of the driving experience.
The Patrol NISMO will be sold exclusively in the Middle East, where it joins the standard Patrol and the off-road-focused Patrol PRO-4X in Nissan’s regional line-up. There are currently no plans to introduce the vehicle to other markets, including India.
