An Andhra Pradesh district consumer commission also awarded ₹90,000 in compensation and ₹10,000 towards litigation costs after finding deficiency in service.

Ola Electric has been directed by a district consumer commission in Andhra Pradesh to refund ₹1,34,161 to a customer after the company failed to deliver an electric motorcycle for several months despite receiving the full payment upfront, Cartoq has reported.

The customer had booked an Ola Electric Roadster X Plus on October 2, 2025, and paid the entire amount of ₹1,34,161. The motorcycle was scheduled to be delivered on October 23, but the delivery did not take place.

Following the missed delivery date, the customer contacted Ola Electric several times through email and its customer support channels. He also approached the National Consumer Helpline, but said the company did not take effective steps either to resolve the issue or deliver the motorcycle.

The customer further alleged that the motorcycle had been registered using an OTP on December 31, 2025, even though it had not been handed over to him. He said he subsequently received communication concerning the registration, but continued to wait for the vehicle.

The customer told the commission that he was unemployed and intended to use the motorcycle to earn a livelihood through ride-service platforms such as Rapido. He also said he had borrowed the money for the purchase at a high interest rate and was facing financial difficulties because of the prolonged delay.

He further submitted that the price of the same model had subsequently increased to ₹2.48 lakh, which he said added to his financial loss.

Ola Electric argued before the commission that the October 23 delivery date was indicative rather than binding. The company said delivery depended on vehicle availability as well as the completion of government and regulatory formalities.

The matter was heard by a bench comprising President Karanam Kishore Kumar and member S Nazima Kausar. The commission noted that there was no dispute over the customer having paid the entire purchase amount upfront. It also observed that the transaction had progressed through vehicle preparation and document verification.

The bench noted that the customer had repeatedly followed up with Ola Electric over the delayed delivery. The company, however, did not provide sufficient evidence to explain why the motorcycle had not been delivered for several months.

While the commission acknowledged that an estimated delivery date could allow some flexibility, it held that this could not justify an extended delay, particularly after the customer had made full payment.

The commission concluded that Ola Electric was deficient in service because it had accepted the complete payment but failed to deliver the motorcycle within a reasonable period.

It ordered the company to refund ₹1,34,161, along with interest at 12% per annum from October 2025 until the date of payment.

In addition to the refund, Ola Electric was directed to pay ₹90,000 as compensation for loss of livelihood, mental agony, inconvenience, harassment and financial difficulties faced by the customer. The commission also awarded ₹10,000 towards litigation expenses.

The total compensation and refund are to be paid to the customer within 45 days, according to the commission's order.
