Omega Seiki Mobility Starts Making Electric Vehicle For Persons With Disabilities

Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM) has started designing and developing an electric vehicle (EV) specifically intended for persons with disabilities, in a bid to address diverse mobility requirements within India’s transition to electric vehicles. The company said the project is part of its efforts to support a more inclusive and accessible mobility ecosystem. 

Instead of adapting an existing vehicle, OSM said the proposed EV will be developed around the specific requirements of persons with disabilities, with a human-centric approach guiding the design process.

Accessibility, safety, comfort, convenience and ease of use will form the key areas of focus as development progresses. OSM added the objective is to create a practical mobility solution that can support greater independence in everyday travel for people with different mobility needs.

The company plans to use its experience in electric vehicle engineering and manufacturing while exploring a domestically developed mobility solution for persons with disabilities.

According to Uday Narang, Founder and Chairman of Omega Seiki Mobility, the company wants India's shift to electric mobility to be inclusive and to reach people with diverse mobility needs, and that the initiative aims to apply engineering and innovation toward a practical solution built around the needs of persons with disabilities.

As the project moves through the development stage, OSM said it will consult users, experts and other relevant stakeholders. Their inputs are expected to help shape the vehicle around practical requirements and the day-to-day experiences of its intended users.

The company has not disclosed technical specifications, development milestones or a launch timeline for the electric vehicle. Details such as the vehicle's powertrain, battery capacity, range, seating configuration and intended price positioning have also not been announced.
