One Crore FASTag Annual Passes Issued in Just Over One Year

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced that the FASTag Annual Pass has crossed a major milestone: one crore passes have been issued to car owners in India. The scheme, which can cut costs significantly for frequent road users, was launched on Independence Day in 2025, which means this number has been achieved in just over 13 months. For reference, the first 25 lakh passes were sold by October 2025, and the 50 lakh mark was crossed in February this year.

This strong response from consumers shows that the FASTag Annual Pass has benefited vehicle owners across the country. Only private passenger cars are eligible to use it, and it is valid across approximately 1,150 national highways and expressways throughout India. It is not currently valid for state highways and expressways, or toll roads managed by local authorities.

The pass is currently priced at ₹3,075 and is valid for one year or for a maximum of 200 toll crossings. It initially cost ₹3,000 at the time of launch, but the price was raised very slightly in April and is likely to be revised every year going forward, as per the National Highway Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) (Amendment) Rules, 2025. 

Road users who buy the annual pass don’t need to keep refilling their FASTag wallet. Any privately owned car with a valid FASTag can use the pass. As of Diwali last year, people can even gift a pass to each other.

Although many travelers have saved money thanks to the pass, the MoRTH has had to reimburse toll plaza operators for the shortfall in funds collected.

According to statistics released by the MoRTH earlier this year, the Bijwasan Fee Plaza on the Delhi–Gurugram border is the most frequently used toll crossing in India for Annual Pass holders, and around 57 percent of eligible cars use it when passing through. Car owners in Chandigarh currently have the most annual passes, with 14 percent of the total number issued in India. Tamil Nadu is next with 12.3 percent, followed by Delhi at 11.5 percent.
