OnePlus Nord 4 Launched With Metal Body, AI, 6-Year Performance Promise

OnePlus has officially launched its latest mid-range smartphone for mainstream audiences, the OnePlus Nord 4. The company promises that this device will stand out thanks to its AI-enhanced cameras, and makes the unique claim that it will deliver lag-free performance for six years. The new Nord 4 smartphone was launched along with the OnePlus Tab 2, Nord Buds 3 Pro, and OnePlus Watch 2r.

Pre-orders begin on July 20, with open sales starting from August 2, on OnePlus’s own website as well as Amazon, Reliance Digital, Croma, Vijay Sales, and authorised retailers. The OnePlus Nord 4 is priced at Rs. 29,999 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, Rs. 32,999 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and Rs. 35,999 with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There’s an instant discount of up to Rs. 3,000 for ICICI Bank and OneCard members, plus a further discount of Rs. 1,000 during the pre-order period. Buyers will also get four months of Spotify premium for free, plus benefits on the Reliance Jio network.

The new OnePlus Nord 4 has a seamless metal unibody and measures only 7.99mm thick. It’s made from one solid piece of aluminium which the company says was a huge challenge to design without compromising the device’s 5G reception. It will be available in Mercurial Silver, with a laser-engraved diagonal ribbed pattern on the back; Obsidian Midnight with an understated brushed metal finish; and the anodised two-tone Oasis Green.   

OnePlus claims that the Nord 4 will remain fast and smooth for years, thanks to its Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen3 SoC and 5500mAh battery. The device is certified by >>> and has undergone tests that simulate six years of heavy use. The SoC features Qualcomm’s AI Engine to run generative AI tasks on-device. The company has also developed its own OnePlus Intelligence which it says minimises power consumption and makes apps load quicker. Apps can be set to remain active in the background so they aren’t automatically closed, for even better responsiveness. Buyers will get four years of software version updates and six years of timely security patches.

The 5500mah battery is the highest capacity OnePlus has ever shipped outside China. It’s promised to last for more than a full day. The phone supports 100W charging with the included charger, and can get from 1-100 percent in 20 minutes. A five-minute charge is said to be enough for five hours of video streaming. The phone actively monitors battery health and charging, and OnePlus also claims it will withstand 1,600 charging cycles before the capacity degrades to 80 percent; equivalent to four years of charging once a day. 

Display quality is also a selling point for the Nord 4. OnePlus has used a 6.74-inch AMOLED panel with a 1.5K 1240x2772-pixel resolution, 450ppi density, 2150 nit peak brightness, and HDR10+ support. The touchscreen is said to be fully usable when wet, for example if the user is caught in a rain shower. 

The phone has a 50-megapixel primary camera with a Sony Lytia sensor, f/1.8 aperture and OIS. There’s also an 8-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide camera and a 16-megapixel front camera. Among this phone’s software features are AI Best Face (coming in an update later this year) which can fix group photos in which some subjects are blinking; AI Clear Face which ensures everyone is in focus; AI Eraser to remove people or objects from photos; and Smart Cutout which lets you isolate a photo’s subject and paste it anywhere else. 

OnePlus will ship this phone with OxygenOS 14.1 based on Android 14. Other AI-enhanced features include AI Speak, AI Summary, AI Writer, Recording Summary and AI Link Boost. The Nord 4 also has stereo speakers, dual 5G Nano-SIM support, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, a USB 2.0 Type-C port, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and trademark Alert Slider.
